The traditional “12 Towers Ocean Paddle Race”
Long Course – 14kms
This race will see scores of SUP, Prone and Ski Paddle athletes contest an Open Water distance pursuit in the pristine ocean waters of the Gold Coast. We anticipate 130-160 competitors of all ages and craft categories. This race will also see nine to ten of the world’s best paddling athletes battling it out in our own backyard.
The start of the race will see competitors grace the sand of world famous Kirra Point before setting off on a 14 km stretch to beautiful Burleigh Heads, passing by 12 Lifeguard Beach Surveillance Towers. (Hence establishing the race name)
Once competitors reach picturesque Burleigh Headland, they will round an inflatable “turning buoy” approximately 150 meters from the viewing platform/pipe in the centre of Burleigh Beach, as they make their final dash for the dry sand finish line.
The additional “12 Towers Ocean Paddle Race”
Short Course – 5-6kms
This race is the perfect set-up for the novice to the non-serious SUP Paddler looking to achieve personal goals or to challenge your friends. Starting at Currumbin, paddlers will head north along the Palm Beach strip toward a turning buoy off Burleigh Heads Beach. They too will take a final line to the shore for a dry sand finish line.
Approximately 5-6kms of brilliant Gold Coast inshore scenery!
